Terrence Romeo repeats as PBA Three-Point Shootout champion

TERRENCE Romeo retained his Three-Point Shootout crown on Friday by beating KG Canaleta and RJ Jazul in the finals at the start of the PBA All-Star Weekend Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The defending champ was the second to attempt in the finals and finished with 20 pts as he won the top prize worth P30k.

Jazul and Canaleta both had 17 pts.

"Kinabahan din ako. Alam ko lahat yan capable manalo," Romeo said afterwards. "Lalo na si KG until the last rack I know kaya niyang i-shoot lahat yun."

The Globalport gunner became the first player to win the shootut for two straight years after Mark Macapagal, who reigned for three in a row from 2010 to 2012.

He is also the fifth player to repeat as champion after Allan Caidic (91 and 92), Jasper Ocampo (98 and 99), Boyet Fernandez (2000 and 01), and Macapagal.

Romeo said he can't guarantee if he'll be able to defend his title in next year's All-Star.

"Lahat nung kasali ngayon, kayang manalo nun kahit sino," he said. "Sabi ko nga kinakabahan talaga ko kanina." 

Romeo along with Jazul and Canaleta finished with the highest scores after the first round.

Canaleta was on top with 25 points, Romeo with 24, and Jazul with 22.

Garvo Lanete missed the finals by a just a few points with 20 and former champion James Yap had 19.

Others who competed were Troy Rosario (16 pts), Jeff Chan (14 pts), JayJay Helterbrand (14), Jared Dilinger (13), Almond Vosotros (9), Alex Cabagnot (7) and Simon Enciso (7).
