Yeng Guiao demands more from Mo Charlo in Rain or Shine match vs TNT

RAIN or Shine coach Yeng Guiao will find out from his TV screen if Mo Charlo has heeded his call as the Elasto Painters seek to stretch their streak, taking on Tropang TNT in a rare Monday playdate of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

After scattering 35 points in his debut, Charlo appeared to settle for jumpers as he wound up with just 16 points on 3-of-12 shooting – although he did have eight assists and eight boards – in their 103-98 win over Mahindra.

And Guiao is hoping his import, standing a shade below 6-5 – giving up five inches against Enforcers counterpart Augustus Gilchrist – would be more aggressive especially against his fellow imports.

“He is undersized,” Guiao admitted of Charlo. “And if you’re undersized and you don’t get physical to the maximum limit that the league allows, your opponent is going to score on you, and that happened with Gilchrist.”

“He has to test that limit of physicality that the referees give him,” he added of Charlo, who committed just two fouls against the Enforcers.

But Guiao won’t be around to oversee Charlo as he serves a one-game suspension he incurred after yelling invectives against the referees over a questionable offensive foul called against Maverick Ahanmisi against Mahindra.

Charlo, an NBA D-League Defensive Team member, matches up with another taller import in 6-foot-7 David Simon.

Assistant coach Caloy Garcia will call the shots for the E-Painters, who are riding the momentum of a three-game winning run that moved them above .500 with a 4-3 win-loss record.

The defending champion Texters, one game behind the E-Painters at 3-4, are looking to gain some steam following an 85-80 win over NLEX last week.

Alaska, toting a 5-2 slate, aims to regain s share of the lead with San Miguel Beer as it faces Mahindra, which is tied with TNT, earlier at 4:15 p.m.
