BACK-up big man Frank Golla was wise enough not to fall prey into veteran Beau Belga’s trap.

The sophomore center shrugged off Belga’s taunting after the Rain or Shine resident tough guy scored on the low block against him during the Elasto Painters’ 95-90 win over Blackwater in their Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup playoffs at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.

Belga gave Golla a sharp stare after converting a basket early in the third period, and then repeatedly wagged his index finger at the former Ateneo cager as the two run down court.

Golla said the move hardly intimidated him.

“It’s part of the game. I learned from it. I handled it properly. Sana next time hindi na ako maganun,” said the 25-year-old Golla, who shook hands and exchanged pats on the back with Belga when he passed by the Rain or Shine dugout.

“Nautakan niya ako run. So I really have to work on my game para the next time hindi na ulit mangyari yun.”

Although he didn’t look directly at Belga following the incident, he knew what the bulky Rain or Shine bruiser was doing.

“I just smiled at it,” he said when asked what he did.

Blackwater’s second round pick (No. 23 overall) in last year’s draft had to play extended minutes in the middle after injuries suffered by big men James Sena and Gilbert Bulawan.

He finished with four points, five rebounds, and two steals in 24 minutes of play.

“Siyempre malaki ang improvement,” Golla noted when asked about his second season in the league.

He expects to learn more as the season wears on, especially with the experience Blackwater has earned in the franchise’ first-ever playoff appearance.

And of course, the experience of playing against the likes of Belga.

“We all know naman na he’s one of the best (big men) here in the PBA. Very established na, so I think that will go a long way for me,” Golla said.
