ALEX Cabagnot may find himself calling the plays for San Miguel Beer's backcourt again.

A source told the Beermen camp is weighing the possibility of re-acquiring the crafty Fil-American guard who the team traded to GlobalPort just last February.

It has yet to be determined for whom Cabagnot will be traded, although the source said San Miguel management is looking to give up either Sol Mercado or Chris Ross.

“Hindi pa final pero either Sol o Chris Ross ang pinagpipilian. Gusto kasi ng management na mabiyak `yung tandem nung dalawang Fil-Ams,” said the source, who refused to disclose the reason begind the need to break up the Ross-Mercado tandem at San Miguel.

Another source told the Ramon S. Ang-controlled team was actually eyeing top rookie pick overall Stanley Pringle, but GlobalPort management refused to trade away its prized acquisition.

If and when the trade is finalized, Cabagnot is bound to return to the same team he led to a championship during the 2011 Governors Cup.

Cabagnot acquited himself well in less than a season with GlobalPort but may find himself dispensable if Pringle proves as good as advertised for the Batang Pier.

Sources said team management isn't sure if Cabagnot is willing to settle for a back-up role behind Pringle, who has blended well with incoming sophomore Terrence Romeo in the team's preseason games.
