Chance for revenge as Talk 'N Text battles Philippine Cup tormentor San Miguel
Coach Jong Uichico and the Texters hope to bounce back from a triple overtime loss to Purefoods. Jaime Campos

THE last time Talk ‘N Text met with San Miguel Beer, the Tropang Texters got swept in the Philippine Cup semifinals.

The Tropang Texters have a chance to get some measure of revenge against the Beermen and push them to the brink of elimination as they collide in the Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Talk ’N Text is coming off a heartbreaking 118-117 triple-overtime loss to Purefoods Star on Saturday in Davao.

In joint second spot with Rain or Shine and Meralco at 6-3, Talk ’N Text is looking to improve its chances for a top two finish.

The match starts at 7 p.m.

The top two finishers in the eliminations earn a twice-to-beat advantage and will play the seventh and eighth seeds, respectively in the quarterfinals.

On the hand, teams seeded third to sixth will clash in best-of-three series.

The Beermen are in 11th spot with a 3-6 record, but have shown signs of improvement with their first back-to-back wins for the conference.

San Miguel, the reigning Philippine Cup champion, whipped Barako Bull, 102-91, before smashing Rain or Shine, 129-114 in a tension-filled matched marred by a verbal spat involving import Arizona Reid and coach Yeng Guiao.

San Miguel’s star center June Mar Fajardo said they hope to again execute the same ball movement as in the team’s 15-point victory over Rain or Shine when they play the Tropang Texters.

“Maganda yung ball rotation namin against Rain or Shine. So sa last two games, pag nanalo pa kami, may chance pa kami pumasok sa playoffs,” said Fajardo, who is coming off a monster game of 30 points and 19 rebounds against the Elasto Painters.
