ARWIND Santos led San Miguel Beer’s murderous second-quarter blitzkrieg as the Beermen smashed Talk ‘N Text, 109-86, in Game One of their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series on Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The 6-4 Santos pumped in 14 of his 21 points in the first half, anchoring a decisive 22-2 bomb inside the final four minutes of the second quarter that blew the game wide open, 53-36, by halftime.

The Beermen stepped on the gas pedal in the second half behind youthful slotman June Mar Fajardo to wrap up the one-sided match and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

“This (win) is just one game. Even if we beat them by 30 or whatever, this is just one game so I’m sure they will bounce back the next time around because they don’t want to lose like that again,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.

San Miguel, the tournament’s top defensive team, held Talk ‘N Text to just 33 percent shooting from the field while going on an offensive onslaught led by Fajardo's 23 points.

The Beermen also imposed their size on the Texters, dominating the rebounding department, 56-39, with the 6-10 Fajardo hauling down 10 boards, and Santos and Marcio Lassiter adding eight apiece.

Reacquired playmaker Alex Cabagnot had a smooth transition back to the team, debuting for the Beermen this season with an all-around performance marked by 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Talk ‘N Text, which saw its six-game winning streak come to an end, were led by Ranidel de Ocampo with 20 points. Danny Seigle came off the bench to add 16.
