RAIN or Shine coach Yeng Guiao is bracing for the worst as far as Wayne Chism’s injury is concerned, saying the team is already looking at possible replacements for the balik import.

Chism was brought to a hospital after pulling his hamstring following a bad fall early in the third quarter of the Elasto Painters’ 98-95 loss to Meralco in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday.

“We don’t know yet how serious it is,” Guiao said. “Kung kayang mag-heal in a week or so, then maybe we can wait for him. But if it’ll take more than that, we have to consider getting a replacement.”

“We’re already considering backups at this point,” he added. “Just in case the news is not too good, we’re hoping we can have time to bring somebody in.”

The Painters’ next game is on Sunday against Ginebra.

“I don’t know if somebody can be ready by Sunday, but after that, it’s Saturday,” Guiao said. “Siguro by then, meron na kung hindi talaga uubra si Wayne.”

Guiao said they are working “overtime” to find a replacement.

“The secret of making the playoff is a good start, so I’m not giving up on a good start even with what happened,” the veteran coach said. “That’s why we will work overtime tonight and tomorrow to find a replacement. We’re still hoping that Wayne is not that seriously hurt.”
