OTHER than another down-the-wire win it pulled off in the PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday, one major attraction over at the San Miguel bench was the new hair of rookie big man Arnold Van Opstal.

The lanky center showed up at the Smart Araneta Coliseum for the Beermen’s game against Mahindra sporting a silverish, purple-colored tops.

The new look according to a smiling Van Opstal, had his teammates referring to him as 'Jack Frost,' the comic book superhero and member of the Liberty Legion.

The 6-foot-9 product of De La Salle is taking all the ribbings in stride.

“They all like it,” he said. “They’re making fun of me at first, but they’re all supportive. They’re nice guys.”

Van Opstal said no one inspired him to have his hair colored this way, saying ‘I just want to do it.’

“Who else would do this? Maybe Dennis Rodman,” he added, obviously referring to the eccentric former NBA rebounding demon, also known for sporting different hair colors every game.

The color is not washable, but Van Opstal said he won't hesitate to try other hair colors during other playing days.

“Maybe if you guys like it, I’ll keep everyone entertained,” he added.

Too bad, Van Opstal didn’t play in the 94-91 win by the Beermen over the Floodbuster.

The 24-year-old rookie is the latest player to brandish a new hairstyle in the all-Filipino conference after the likes of JayJay Helterbrand, JC Intal, and Gabe Norwood.
