IN his final outing before leaving for the Fiba Asia Cup in Beirut, Lebanon, Roger Pogoy played a game to remember by putting a spectacular shooting clinic in TnT Katropa’s thrilling come-from-behind 107-106 win over Alaska in the PBA Governors Cup Friday night.

The rookie guard from Cebu was a near flawless 7-of-8 from three point range to finish with 25 points, including 16 in the payoff period when the Katropa launched a huge offensive assault to overhaul as much as a 14-point deficit, 63-49.

Pogoy’s total output was the second best in his young pro career, although his seven triples were the most so far since he donned the TnT uniform this season.

Now, he hopes to sustain the hot shooting with Gilas Pilipinas as it begins its Fiba Asia Cup campaign next week.

“Siguro dagdag kumpiyansa ng konti,” said the Gilas cadet outside the TnT dugout at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. “Sana madala ko ito sa Fiba Asia.”

Pogoy played 38 minutes against the Aces – second most after veteran teammate Jayson Castro. The extra playing time given by coach Nash Racela surprised him considering he’s also practicing with the national team on a daily basis.

But he’s not complaining.

“Sinagad kami ni coach Nash. Wala kaming pahinga third and fourth (quarters),” said the deadly gunner from Far Eastern University. “Pero okay lang. May pagod e, pero kailangan. Tsaka love natin itong basketball kaya ang sarap sa pakiramdam.”

The feeling is just the same for TnT as the Katropa hiked their record to 2-1 overall.

The team will have a  15-day rest during the FIBA Asia Cup stretch when it misses the services of Pogoy and Castro, and won’t return to action until August 20 against Rain or Shine.
