Resurgent Larry Fonacier far from satisfied amid TNT success: 'Nothing less than a championship is a must'

LARRY Fonacier played down his resurgent showing for TNT Katropa against Star, saying his main focus is for the Texters to live up to tremendous expectations as a unit in the PBA Governors’ Cup.

The Texters gunner fired a season-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting as he conspired with Mo Tautuaa off the bench to spark the team’s 115-105 victory over the Hotshots that tightened their grip on the top spot with a 9-1 win-loss record.

“It's good, but we can’t stop here,” Fonacier said after the game. “You know the expectations with this company are up there; nothing less than making it to the finals and winning a championship is a must for us.”

The 34-year-old shooting guard, who completed a fine performance with seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal without committing a turnover in almost 32 minutes of play off the bench, knows they are on the right track.

And after failing to live up to expectations following their Commissioner’s Cup conquest last year, the Texters are back to top form.

“We come into games hungry,” Fonacier said. “I guess for three straight conferences we underachieved, I think we got to a point that we were tired of losing.”

“The way we practice, we just enjoy in practice,” the 11-year veteran added. “I don’t know what happened, we just enjoy practicing together.”
