MARC Pingris’ recovery from a hip injury is taking longer than expected as he is set to miss his fourth straight game on Wednesday when Star squares off against Mahindra in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Initially thought to be sidelined for just the first three games of the conference, it seems the Hotshots star is set to miss at least another week to rest a hip injury he sustained in the Philippine Cup semifinals against Ginebra.

“Nagpapalakas pa. pero nandun na. ang hinahabol ko ngayon yung kundisyon,” Pingris said in a short chat with after practice on Tuesday where he was again reduced into a spectator. “So swimming, weights, yun lang ginagawa ko.”

Hotshots coach Chito Victolero is targeting Pingris to return either for their highly anticipated game against Ginebra on Sunday or against San Miguel Beer the Sunday after that, although team insiders said the veteran power forward could be out for an even extended period.

“Our goal is maybe kung hindi man Ginebra, San Miguel game,” Victolero said. “Continue naman yung kanyang pag galing. Ang gusto lang namin sa kanya gumaling talaga. Kung kailan man yang pag balik niya, at least hundred percent siya.

“Ayaw namin na pabalik-balik yung injury niya,” he added.
