RAIN or Shine neutralized Star’s locals to jumpstart its title bid in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup with a 95-86 victory on Saturday night at the Philsports Arena.

The Elasto Painters, allowed Hotshots import Denzel Bowles to scatter 39 points and 18 boards, but managed to put the clamps on the rest of the team to start the conference on the right track after finishing as bridesmaids in the last midseason tournament.

“Purefoods is a tough team to beat. Bowles’ sheer length and size were really a problem,” E-Painters coach Yeng Guiao said. “Otherwise, we minimized the contributions from the locals.”

Supposedly sidelined with an elbow injury, Jeff Chan suited up and scored a team-high 17 points off the bench to lead the Painters, who dealt the Hotshots their second straight loss.
