THE real Rain or Shine showed up in the second half as it rolled past GlobalPort, 116-94, to clinch a quarterfinal berth in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Tuesday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The Elasto Painters saw the eliminated Batang Pier try to play the spoiler’s role in the first half, before turning it up a notch to turn the game around and pull away for the second straight victory and sixth overall in 10 outings.

“We got our offense rhythm in the second half,” ROS coach Yeng Guiao said. “We just tried to keep it close in the first half because we knew there was no pressure for GlobalPort.”

Mo Charlo, who didn’t practice on the eve of the game due to food poisoning, showed he has recovered as he tallied 18 points and 11 boards as he looked more aggressive this time for the Painters, who handed the Batang Pier their seventh straight setback that left them stuck at the cellar at 2-8 (win-loss).

Jeff Chan was on target with four three-pointers to also finish with 18 markers in just 18 minutes, while Paul Lee, in just his third game back from a knee injury, took advantage of garbage time as he scored 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter. His last last points came via free throws that gave ROS its biggest lead at 22.

Shawn Taggart remained winless in four games as GlobalPort import as he finished with 32 points, 15 boards, two blocks, two assists, and one steal that went for naught.

Terrence Romeo added 19 points as he missed backcourt partner Stanley Pringle, who was sidelined anew by injury after returning just last game.
