RAIN or Shine continues its toughest stretch yet as it takes on Talk ‘N Text in a marquee matchup on Sunday in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

After passing their first test with a 94-86 win over Barangay Ginebra last Sunday, the Elasto Painters tackle the Tropang Texters this time at 5:15 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s Commissioner’s Cup Finals.

“We have a tough schedule ahead of us,” said Painters coach Yeng Guiao, whose team next faces Alaska.

The Painters can breathe a little easier after that as they finish the elimination round with a relatively light schedule that will see them face Meralco, NLEX, and Barako Bull.

ROS, however, must first accomplish the task at hand in the Texters, who are seeking to a book a quarterfinal ticket and atone for a stunning 105-98 loss to the Energy last Thursday that dropped their win-loss record to 4-3.

The Painters, sporting a 6-1 win-loss card and are a half-game behind leaders San Miguel Beer and Alaska, are already assured of a spot in the first round of the playoffs, but are aiming to stretch their winning streak to four games and strengthen their bid for an automatic semifinal berth.

The top two teams advance to the semifinals outright.

Star and Mahinda, both running third to last in the standings with similar 2-6 slates, hope to stay alive in the playoff race as they face off earlier at 3 o’clock.
