AS stealthy as he is when coming out of the dugout, Rafi Reavis’ contributions on the court have hardly been noticed.

But the Star center showed his importance for the Hotshots in their 102-89 win over Blackwater in the PBA Philippine Cup on Friday night.

Lost in the din of PJ Simon breaking out of his offensive slump was Reavis, who saw action for the first time since he dislocated the ring finger on his left hand that kept him out for almost two months. tried to get his thoughts, but the Filipino-American big man had already left the building.

Good thing frontcourt partner Marc Pingris was still there to talk about him.

“Yan ang gusto kong sabihin: ang laking bagay talaga is Rafi,” the veteran forward said.

Reavis, the Hotshots captain who wasn’t expected to be back until the start of the playoffs, provided the leadership and communication that had been lacking in past games, Pingris said.

“Hindi dahil nakaka-score siya, pero yung maingay siya sa loob, kahit sa practice ginagawa niya yun. yung energy niya na magsasalita sa amin, ang laking bagay nun,” Pingris said of the 6-foot-8 big beanpole. “Lahat kasi ginaganahan dumepensa o mag-rotate naman eh.”

“Yun yung trabaho namin as role player, yung kinakausap namin yung mga guard,” he added.

Reavis finished with six rebounds, three points, two steals, one of which led to his only assist which in turn resulted in a fastbreak layup by Mark Barroca that gave Star a 14-point lead early in the fourth.
