STAR suffered a major blow as Rafi Reavis is expected to be out for at least the next two months - or the remainder of the eliminations of the Smartbro-PBA Philippine Cup - after suffering a gruesome finger injury.

The veteran Hotshots big man dislocated the index finger in his left hand after a collision with Japeth Aguilar early in the third quarter of the team’s game against Barangay Ginebra last Sunday.

“He’s going to be out for a while,” Hotshots coach Jason Webb told on Thursday. “If we can get him back in two months, we’ll be happy.”

Webb rued the absence of Reavis, the Hotshots’ captain and tallest player.

“It’s a major loss, kasi I play a lot of guys and I want to make sure guys are fresh,” Webb said of the 6-foot-8 beanpole. “Although you don’t see it in the stat sheet, he brings a lot to the table that other bigs cannot.”

The 38-year-old Reavis, who hauled down seven boards, scored two points, and dished out one assist in 14 minutes before going out against the Gin Kings, could return if and when the Hotshots advance to the playoffs.

The rest of the frontline featuring Marc Pingris, Ian Sangalang, and rookie Norbert Torres are expected to step up, starting in their next game, against Globalport on Friday.
