Star fans make last-ditch appeal to SMC big boss Ang on Cone transfer to Ginebra: 'Say it isn't so'
Star fans hope Tim Cone's move to Ginebra isn't a done deal. Jerome Ascano

DIEHARD Purefoods/Star fans are hoping against hope that Tim Cone, the coach that led the storied franchise to new heights the past two PBA seasons, will not move to Ginebra as reported in newspapers and online media outlets.

Distraught Star fans took to Twitter to air their feeling in the wake of reports that San Miguel Corp. is set to announce another shuffle of coaches that would have Cone taking over Ginebra, replacing Frankie Lim.

Jason Webb, a former player and TV analyst, is being groomed to replace the multi-titled coach at Star, which Cone has led to a first-ever grand slam in the 2014 season.

The move is designed to pump life into a Ginebra team that has not won a league championship in eight seasons. The popular team, in fact, had little success under Ato Agustin and Lim in three conferences this season.

The news, however, didn't sit well with Star fans who took to Twitter and other social media sites in the hope that the plan would not push through.

One Star fans site has launched a petition hoping to change the mind of SMC big boss Ramon S. Ang, who is hands-on in the affairs not just of Ginebra and Star but also another SMC-owned team, San Miguel Beer.

“Please let Mr. Ang know #LetConeStay #NoToKangCone,” wrote Purefoods/Star Twitter page @purefoodsbball.

Similar appeals have been made by Star fans, who had flooded's social media pages to air their disagreement with the plan.

In the interview, Cone said he has not been informed of any changes but made it clear he will follow any directive from Ang, saying 'I serve at the pleasure of the President, Mr. Ramon Ang."

Purefoods fans hope it's not a done deal.

“Di pa done deal yung Cone to Gins...we can still stop it by letting them know what we feel...#LetConeStay #NoToKangCone,” @purefoodsbball said in a succeeding tweet.
