FILIPINO hoop fans in the Middle East are set to see their favorite local players in action as the PBA is set to hold two Governors’ Cup games in Dubai in May.

No less than the league’s most popular team, Barangay Ginebra, emerging fan favorite Rain or Shine, and GlobalPort will play games in the United Arab Emirates city with a large population of Overseas Filipino Workers.

The matches will be played on May 21 and 22 at the Al Shabab Al Arabi Club, UAE.

It will be the second time the PBA will hold matches in Dubai as Asia’s first professional league also hosted two games there three years ago, with Ginebra and ROS also playing as well as Barako Bull.

The upcoming event, dubbed “PBA in Dubai”, is made possible by Blckmrkt International LLC and Clique Events Co., in cooperation with TV5 International’s Aksyon TV International, OSN, and Cebu Pacific as presenters, with BPI, Avida, and Amaia as major sponsors.

“Because we have a strong base of Filipinos in the Middle East who are big PBA fans, we bring to them this rare chance to see their PBA idols and personally watch the PBA games even when they are thousands of miles away from home,” TV5 International FVP-head of sales and marketing Rona Lynn 'Pie' Basiao said.

“We want to give entertainment to our 21st century heroes: the OFWs,” Clique Events Co. managing director Kristelle Gurtina said.

The Elasto Painters will play back-to-back games, first in May 21 against Globalport, then the next day against the Gin Kings, two games aired live on Aksyon TV's international channel.
