FORMER PBA chairman Patrick Gregorio could be headed to the Department of Tourism as part of the cabinet of incoming president Rodrigo Duterte.

Persons close to Gregorio who requested anonymity said the alternate governor of Tropang TNT is one of the candidates being eyed for the Tourism secretary post of the Duterte administration.

Before he became involved in the PBA and with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), Gregorio started out in the tourism sector, having been the youngest general manager of the Manila Hotel. He was also a Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) awardee for tourism in 2003.

In the PBA, Gregorio hatched the plan to bring in Asian imports last season in his role as league chairman. It was also during his term that the PBA recorded the largest crowd in history of about 55,000 at the Philippine Arena.
