Not (much) playing time, not a problem for James Yap: 'Diskarte ni coach 'yun'

JAMES Yap is not about to pout over his lack of playing time during the marquee match up between San Miguel and Rain or Shine on Friday night in the PBA Philippine Cup.

The two-time MVP sat out the entire second half, including the overtime period, of the Elasto Painters' 107-101 loss to the defending champions.

In all, he only played for 13 minutes and finished with three points on 1 of 3 shooting.

But Yap shrugged off being benched by coach Caloy Garcia, who still has the full trust of the 34-year-old shooting guard.

"Hindi ko rin alam kung bakit pero diskarte yun ni coach," said Yap. "But for me it's ok. Diskarte niya. Walang problema sa akin."

Yap lamented the Elasto Painters gave away what obviously was a game for the team to take.

He wanted very much to be inside the court but had to watch the action from the bench.

"Masarap sana pumasok, pero siyempre respect 'yung diskarte niya," said the shooting guard from University of the East. "Sayang panalo na."

The Elasto Painters fell to a 5-3 win-loss record, and how the team's bounces back from the loss, according to Yap, will be a great gauge on the character of the team.

"Dito ma-test yung character ng team kung paano mag-bounce back kasi amin na yun" he said.

Rain or Shine gets a two-day break and return to practice on Monday when it prepares for a game against Meralco.
