No regrets for Mike Tolomia after late turnover dampens breakout game for RoS

ROOKIE guard Mike Tolomia showed no tinge of regret after his crucial turnover proved costly for Rain or Shine late in a 102-105 loss to Alaska on Sunday.

The former Far Eastern University star hardly looked like a rookie as he scored nine points and three assists in the fourth period when the Elasto Painters erased a 14-point deficit.

But with Rain or Shine trailing by two, 101-99, and less than 30 seconds left in the game, Tolomia took on Alaska import  Cory Jefferson down the baseline and ended up dribbling off his foot.

For Tolomia, it's all part of the learning curve that he has to go through as a rookie.

"Di naman (nagsisisi). Part naman talaga ng game yun e. Nangyayari talaga 'yung mga ganung klaseng turnovers e," said the younger brother of former Ginebra player Chester.

The Gilas cadet had a chance to atone with the clock winding down, but his three-point try to send the game into overtime was off line.

Tolomia said there was no hesitation to take that shot.

"Siyempre pag nabigyan ng chance na malibre ako or may malibre na teammates, bibigay ko rin naman. 'Yung time na yun ako yung nalibre, so ayun tinira ko," he added.

Despite the late turnover, Tolomia still earned raves from players and coaches on both sides, including Alaska coach Alex Compton.

"How about Mike Tolomia, huh? Tough kid, made a bunch of plays and made our life hard. He was really great off the ball screen today, really great. I thought Mike had a heck of a game for them," Compton said.

The 24-year-old guard now hopes the performance would be enough for him to crack Caloy Garcia's main rotation after playing a total of 15 minutes in their first four games this conference.

"Sana (makapasok na). Siyempre di naman ibibigay sayo 'yun e. Kailangan pa i-earn yun. Siyempre kailangan ko pa ma-improve sarili ko para makapasok sa rotation."
