NLEX taps new import Adrian Forbes as Arnett Moultrie yet to arrive from Bahrain stint

ONE of the first teams to announce its import for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup turns out to be the last to bring in a replacement.

NLEX has tapped the services of Adrian Forbes to replace Arnett Moultrie, who was held up by his team in Bahrain, coach Yeng Guiao confirmed on Friday.

The Road Warriors announced on March 6 their choice of Moultrie, but they have been training for over two weeks now without an import.

In comes Forbes, a 29-year-old Jamaican big man, listed at 6-foot-10 and who last played in Dominican Republic.

“He’s less of a scorer than Moultrie, (and) is more of a defender and rebounder, so we’re sacrificing a little bit of offense by bringing him in,” Guiao said on Friday after their tune-up game against Alaska. “But I guess it will be compensated by rebounding and defense.”

“It’s really very important that your import can play defense, kasi nga magagaling yung mga bagong dating na imports, plus everybody’s looking for size – yung mga Onuaku, mga Josh Smith, mga Jarrid Famous. All of those people will be matched up against each other and if you do not have the kind of import that can match up, then you will have mismatches or matchup problems."

Guiao said they are keeping the door open for Moultrie, who they will put on the reserve list while evaluating Forbes in their first three games of the conference.

“We’ll see if we will need to make a replacement later on pero tignan muna natin performance niya,” Guiao said.
