NLEX seeks to build momentum before All-Star break in match against GlobalPort

NLEX seeks to build momentum heading into the All-Star break as it takes on GlobalPort in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Coming off a breakthrough 120-115 overtime win over Phoenix in Laguna that snapped a three-game skid to start the conference, the Road Warriors try to start a winning streak this time as they face the Batang Pier at 7 p.m.

“We have a long break so we're hoping that we can win again on Wednesday and then just regroup during the All-Star break,” NLEX coach Yeng Guiao said.

“Gusto lang namin magkaroon kami ng konting ... siguro internal search for whatever is going wrong with our team, try to find solutions during that All-Star break,” he added.

After the match against the Batang Pier, the Road Warriors won’t be seeing action until May 30 when they face Blackwater also at Big Dome.

During the long break, the Road Warriors continue to build chemistry with import Arnett Moultrie, the former NBA player who has started to jell with his teammates, flirting with a triple-double of 37 points on 15-of-29 shooting, 17 boards and eight assists with four blocks and one steal in 42 minutes against the Fuel Masters.

“Our import is also getting his rhythm going, he's getting his timing going and it's good news, of course,” Guiao said. “I think he's still getting used to the minutes, to the timing, to the officiating, to his teammates.”

“And if he can play this good while making that transition or adjustment, I think he can still get better,” he added.

“Umaasa kami na gaganda pa yung laro nya once he's able to be 100 percent fit, he's able to learn yung local style of play.”

While the Road Warriors found success on the road, the Batang Pier were unlucky in their out of town game last Saturday when they lost to Magnolia, 92-87, in Pampanga, and they’re eager get back on the winning track and improve their 2-2 win-loss record.

Magnolia aims for its second straight win after a loss as it takes on Columbian Dyip (3-2) in the curtain-raiser at 4:30 p.m.
