Nico Elorde delivers killer blows as GlobalPort kayoes weary TNT KaTropa
Stanley Pringle on the attack against TNT.

GLOBALPORT added to the misery of a weary TNT KaTropa, coasting to a 99-84 victory to boost its own playoff bid in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Pouncing on a Texters side that was playing its third game this week, the Batang Pier established an early lead that they never relinquished on the way to the blowout victory.

Nico Elorde put up the best game in his career while Stanley Pringle continued to get ample support in another collective effort in the absence of Terrence Romeo as the Batang Pier got back to .500 with a 4-4 win-loss record.

The Batang Pier also handed the Texters their third straight defeat and sixth overall in 10 games, with the result enabling idle pacesetters San Miguel Beer, Alaska, and Magnolia to officially clinch playoff berths.

“We started aggressive, kasi ang mindset namin, TNT played three games in a week, so sabi namin na push natin ng i-push then physical kami sa depensa,” GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio said.

“Gusto ng players namin na pumasok ng playoffs and ito ang chance namin,” he added.

Elorde typified the Batang Pier’s desire as he finished with a career-high 17 points, on top of seven assists, seven boards, and one steal in 27 minutes, while Pringle  added 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 36 minutes.

Five more Batang Pier scored at least nine points each, with Jeric Teng weasting no time making his presence felt in his PBA return as he scattered all his nine points – all from beyond the arc – in the first quarter.

The all-around contribution allowed the Batang Pier to lead from start to finish and by as many as 30 points in the third quarter as the Texters came no closer than 10 points in the final frame.

Jayson Castro registered 24 points, four assists, two boards, and one steal, while Kelly Williams added 21 points, but made just eight of his 23 shots, although adding 12 boards, and two blocks, against six turnovers that went for naught for the Texters.
