JAMES Yap admitted he was far from his usual form in Star’s 88-85 loss to NLEX in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Friday night.

While motivated by the birth of his first child with Italian girlfriend Michela Cazzola, Michael James, last Monday, the Hotshots superstar said he lacked sleep taking care of his newborn son and it showed in the Hotshots’ fourth loss in five games.

“Motivated naman ako kanina pero kinulang lang,” said Yap, who had eight points on 3-of-5 shooting, three boards, and two assists in 29 minutes.

“Puyat eh,” he was quick to add. “Four days na puyat, so medyo lutang. Pero okay lang. Worth it naman yung puyat. So bawi na lang.”

His lack of energy was most evident in his free-throw shooting as he missed all but one of his five attempts, including two straight that could’ve brought the Hotshots closer to NLEX with a little over two minutes left.

Still, Yap wouldn’t trade anything for his newborn child.

“Syempre masaya,” Yap said. “After practice gusto ko umuwi kaagad eh. Sobrang excited lagi. Walang sinasayang na oras.”
