Gary David admits being bothered by swollen right knee after scoreless night
Gary David went scoreless in Meralco's loss to Gabe Norwood and Co. Jerome Ascano

GARY David admitted a swollen right knee hampered his play in Meralco’s 97-87 loss to Rain or Shine in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday.

The Bolts gunner, who came into the game averaging 17.6 points and once scored a league-conference-high 40 points last month, was held scoreless for the first time since last season.

“Ayaw ko naman i-dahilan…pero siguro na-bother rin ako,” said David, who has been nursing his injury for the past four games. “Hindi ako makapaglaro ng talagang laro ko.”

“Credit din sa Rain or Shine sa depensa sila,” added David, who failed to score a single point for the first time since the last Commissioner's Cup in April, coincidentally, also against the Elasto Painters.

David took only two shots in 14 minutes as Bolts coach Norman Black regulated his playing time.

“Maybe if we’re still in the running for the playoffs, I would have played him more tonight,” Black said. “But it’s not worth the risk.”

A silver lining is that David now has plenty time of time to recover with the Bolts already eliminated.

“(At least) makakapagpahinga ako ng mahaba para next conference stronger ulit,” the Bolts star said.
