Mindanao All-Stars not backing down against Gilas - either on court or on dance floor

CAGAYAN DE ORO – The Mindanao All-Stars are giving Gilas Pilipinas not just a spirited tune-up on the court, but also a worthy challenge on the dance floor on Wednesday night.

The Mindanao selection has preapred an entertaining dance number for the fans – one that they hope to rival that of the national team in the dance-off before their PBA All-Star game at Xavier University gym.

“Pinaghandaan namin…para sa bayan,” Scottie Thompson said with a chuckle after their rehearsal in a function room at the ninth floor of Mallberry Suites, the hotel where they are billeted, hours before the All-Star game.

The group got a little help from Iligan native Cyrus Baguio’s friend, who put up a medley of some of the latest American R&B hits that the Mindanao All-Stars will dance to.

And it seemed they were also taking the preparation – apart from the All-Star game, itself – seriously. After all, the winning team will pocket a P100,000 prize, although the other team still gets P50,000.

“Go hard na, fourth quarter na,” Thompson shouted before the final go-around of their routine.

Gilas practiced its dance number at Buffalo Resto Grill, which hosted some of the league delegation's meals in the Misamis Oriental capital.
