BEING one of the veterans at Phoenix, Mark Borboran knows his specific role in the team.

Nothing fancy, just the typical blue-collar job which was in full display as the Fuel Masters rallied for a 101-99 win over Globalport in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday night at the Astrodome.

In a rare moment, the unassuming forward led the team in scoring with 23 points, including the tip-in basket in the final 2.1 seconds that won it all for Phoenix.

Borboran was an efficient 9 of 13 shooting from the field, and added eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals.

"Sa akin lang bilang isa sa mga beterano sa team, ready lang ako mag-contribute," he said. "Tulungan lang kami talaga."

Borboran played extended minutes since Willie Wilson has yet to fully recover from an injured right arm.

In the final play, the University of the East product said he was really positioning himself for the rebound in case designated shooter Simon Enciso missed the basket.

"Yun talaga ang play na pag open si Simon drive and kick sa kanya," said Borboran of the Fuel Masters' final play. "Inisip ko lang na be ready for the rebound."

And Borboran was, beating JR Quinahan for the ball, the tip-in, and the win.

"Siguro in the right place at the right time lang," he added.
