GILAS Pilipinas stalwart and Star Hotshots standout Marc Pingris stood out even more as he lived up to his 'Pinoy Sakuragi' moniker by showing up at Gilas practice on Monday night with the same red hair color as the anime hero to the delight of those present at Moro Lorenzo Sports Center in Ateneo.

Pingris, whose fiery hairdo complements his fierce attitude be it in practice or in games, revealed that the simple reason behind the drastic decision is to fully imitate the look of the popular Japanese basketball character Hanamichi Sakuragi from the anime Slam Dunk.

"May fans na nag-request kung pwede daw pula 'tong buhok ko, pinagbigyan ko naman sila," he said when caught up with him during a break in Gilas practice.

"Eh siguro dahil sa Pinoy Sakuragi kaya nila ako pinakulay ng buhok," he added. "Sana matuwa siya."

But Pingris also noted that his red hair look won't be something he'll stick with for long.

"Kanina lang 'to (napakukayan)," he said laughing. "Siguro isa or dalawang game lang tapos after noon ibabalik ko rin sa itim," he said.

Pingris will next take to the PBA court with his new hair on March 12 against Phoenix at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
