MARC Pingris knows what it is like to be hit on the bridge of the nose just what Eric Menk suffered following an accidental elbow by the Star Hotshot forward on the Alaska veteran forward.

The 34-year-old Pingris stressed the point to make known the incident which took place right at the halftime buzzer was not intentional on his part.

“Nung nalaman ko na ilong 'yung tinamaan, pinag-uusapan namin sa dugout nila James (Yap) na pag sa ilong, masakit yun. Mapapaiyak ka diyan, talagang luluha ka. Pag huminga ka talagang mahirap,” he said shortly after the Hothots’ 107-102 loss to the Aces in their Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup game on Tuesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Pingris knows where he’s coming from. He was also once hit on the nose – accidentally – by Jimmy Alapag during a game a few years ago.

“Hanggang ngayon may bukol pa 'yan. Dumugo din, hindi naman inopera, ibinalik lang,” he recalled.

For that reason alone, he doesn’t want any accident of such nature to happen to any of his co-players, especially to a person as soft-spoken as Menk, a former league MVP.

“Part of the game, hindi ko sinasadya 'yun. Hindi ko naman intension na manakit or what, kasi trabaho naman yun,” he said. Paano kung sa akin din nangyari yun. Kaya sana ok naman siya.”

Pingris accidentally hit Menk with his left elbow just as he was driving to the basket against Alaska’s Calvin Abueva as the first half was coming to an end.

“Hindi ko alam kung tumama siya sa akin, kasi na-block na din ako ni Calvin,” Ping said as he tried to recall the incident.

He said he approached the Alaska player and tried to apologize.

“Pagbagsak niya tinanong ko pa siya, ‘Are you ok, ?’ Sabi naman niya, ‘I’m ok, Ping,’” said Pingris of their conversation.

But once he saw blood on the floor, Pingris knows everything wasn’t fine.

“Akala ko nung una ok lang, pero nung nakita kong may dugo, medyo nag-worry na rin ako,” he said. “Kaya sana nga ok lang siya.”

Menk was scheduled to undergo check-up at the Cardinal Santos hospital after the game.
