MAHINDRA is refusing to give up on its PBA Philippine Cup campaign despite going on the brink of elimination on Wednesday night.

The 104-92 loss to TNT Katropa was the Floodbuster’s sixth defeat in eight games, leaving them with a slimmer chance to advance to the next round.

But instead of looking ahead for the Commissioner’s Cup, the Floodbuster are bent on finishing the conference on a winning note.

“We’re still going game to game right now,” Mahindra coach Chris Gavina said after the game. “We really have a nothing-to-lose-everything-to-gain kind of attitude. It’s either we’re going to tank mode or we lift ourselves up from failure.”

“I’m a big fan of believing that your failures lead to your success, so we’ll build off of this,” he added. “We’ll watch this game tomorrow, show the guys how timid we played, and really it was just about wanting it more and we didn’t want it more.”

The Floodbuster showed the desire early on as they went up by seven points late in the second quarter and were still ahead at the half before the Texters turned the game around in the second half.

“We stopped moving the ball, trying to find the open man,” Gavina said. “A lot of it came down to our guys didn’t hit any shots, so our energy usually goes from defense to offense, and it got reversed – when we started missing shots, we started not wanting to play defense and Talk ‘N Text took full advantage of that.”

Philip Paniamogan, who knocked down seven triples for a career-high 25 points in the win over Meralco last Wendesday, was held to just 10 points, draining just one triple against the Texters.

“We had great preparation for this game, but our shots didn’t fall and we didn’t stick to what we usually do, translating into a disappointing loss,” he added.
