LEO Isaac didn’t lose any time meeting up with former Barangay Ginebra coach Rino Salazar shortly after Blackwater’s 103-100 win over Alaska Sunday in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Told that Salazar was at the lower box of the Smart Araneta Coliseum and watched him call the shots for the Elite, Isaac immediately approached the former Toyota guard and his wife Rose to have a short chat.

The two hugged each other, shook hands, and gamely posed for a photo for SPIN.ph.

“Kamustahan lang,” said Isaac when asked what the two of them talked about.

“Mabuti nga nanalo,” added the Blackwater mentor, who last saw his ex-coach a few years ago when he also went home from the US for a short vacation.

Salazar, who won a PBA championship with Shell, coupled arrived in the country over the weekend and will stay here until the end of the month.

Salazar was the able lieutenant of the great Robert Jaworski during their coaching days with the ever popular Ginebra franchise, where Isaac was part of its tough backcourt rotation. The two of won three championships during Isaac’s stay with the team from 1986 until the end of the 1991 season.

Isaac said they didn’t talk about a reunion among former Ginebra players and their beloved mentor.

“Hindi ako aware if alam ni coach Jawo na andito si Rino,” said the Blackwater coach later. “Anyway, matagal pa naman pala siya (Salazar) dito.”
