LA Tenorio came through on all aspects of Ginebra's offense to spark a 104-97 win over GlobalPort in the first playdate of the PBA Philippine Cup for the year on Sunday night.

While he provided some late scoring and finished with 17 points after misfiring early, the veteran playmaker also dished out some crucial assists that played a factor in their second straight win this conference.

One assist also led to a personal milestone, with Tenorio’s dish to Kevin Ferrer in the third quarter marking the 2,460th of his career that put him in 15th place on the all-time assists list, surpassing Gerry Esplana.

“To be honest, ‘di ko alam at ine-expect na makukuha ko yung milestone, kasi ‘di ko siya tina-track down,” Tenorio admitted. “Still, I’m very honored.

"It’s a blessing for me, an achievement na parang the more na gusto mo pang ipakita yung kaya mong gawin especially as a point guard, tinitingnan dyan yung assist, kung paano ka magde-deliver sa teammates mo, how to make your teammates look good every game.”

“The more na mas pagbubutihan ko especially for the team,” he added. “I’m a point guard na hindi naman really looking to score. I’m a point guard na talagang really looking to set up. If there's an opportunity, it’s a good achievement para sa akin. I hope ‘di mag-stop dito. I hope to be more aggressive in the game and not set aside yung achievement na ganyan.”

The 33-year-old Tenorio, who finished with seven assists to jack up his total to 2,464, is seeking to catch the next one on the list, former MVP Ricardo Brown who has 2,480, and eventually crack the Top 10.

“Maybe. We’ll see. Tignan natin,” Tenorio, who did the feat while playing his 534th straight game in the pros, said. “Maaabot ko naman yan just to continue playing every game. Dasal lang tayo na walang injury, Ma-achieve naman yan basta continuous play lang.”
