LA Tenorio refuses to look past Garcia - or look forward to Brownlee arrival

LA Tenorio refused to think about the looming availability of Justin Brownlee as a returning Ginebra import for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, instead putting his focus on jelling with current reinforcement Charles Garcia.

Despite having only one full practice with the Gin Kings due to his adjustment to the weather, Garcia put up a decent performance in his debut with 19 points on 8-of-18 shooting, eight assists, six rebounds, and two steals in 38 minutes in their 108-89 loss to Rain or Shine.

But with the Gin Kings losing their conference debut and Greg Slaughter unlikely to be available until the second half of the eliminations, there’s a possibility that they are reverting to a wing import in Brownlee.

But Tenorio would rather focus on their current import, instead of Brownlee, who’s at the forefront of the attack of an Alab Pilipinas side that’s on the verge of ruling the Asean Basketball League (ABL) at the expense of Mono Vampire.

“As of now kasi hindi namin tinitingnan na parang temporary import lang for Justin. Justin is wala sa picture - sa ngayon,” Tenorio said. “Andyan yung import namin, kung sino yung import namin, we'll deal with that.”

“And I'm sure the coaching staff also has a plan for our import that's why kinuha nila 'to,” he added. “I'm sure with coach Tim, alam niya kung ano gagawin. Di namin kinukwestiyon. We don’t have to talk about it. Alam na nila 'yon. Tagal na nila sa liga, yung coaching staff. We never question them kung anuman yung gagawin nilang adjustment.”

Tenorio also refuses to read too much into the loss.

The Ginebra star playmaker, who finished with 13 points on 5-of-18 shooting, seven assists, four boards, and three steals in 38 minutes, tried to lead his team back, scoring on a triple that pulled the Gin Kings to within eight points, 75-67, in the first possession of fourth, before the E-Painters pulled away.

“Di naman kami natalo this game by 20 points, di naman kami out na kaagad ng conference,” Tenorio said. “Marami pa yan. Matagal pa yan. No need to panic. We just have to look at the video and see kung ano dapat namin iimprove, and kailangan namin isustain for us to get the win.”
