Ginebra fourth-quarter hero LA Tenorio says he's only taking advantage of opportunities

LA Tenorio insisted there is no conscious effort to take over at crunch time for Barangay Ginebra, saying the opportunity to deliver just presented itself in the team's past games in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Except for his dismal showing in the loss to Alaska, the Gin Kings star playmaker has been his vintage self, delivering especially in the clutch for his team, the latest in their 89-79 win over Blackwater on Sunday.

Tenorio scattered nine of his 20 points in the payoff period as he conspired with Othyus Jeffers in leading the Gin Kings’ late push against the Elite.

“Opportunity lang with the help of my teammates din,” the 31-year-old cager said. “Nakikita nila na nao-open talaga eh, so it's an opportunity for me.”

“Mas gugustuhin ko na every game, iba-iba ang Best Player (awardee), iba-iba ang nagiging hero sa team namin,” he was quick to add. “Ibig sabihin, nagpi-pick up talaga yung team namin. Everyone is happy and helping each other. It's better na ganun.”

“But if the opportunity comes, I always take it at ‘di ko naman sinasayang."

True enough, Tenorio came through for Ginebra once again as his three-pointer with 43 seconds proved to be the final nail in the coffin of Blackwater.

He rounded out an all-around performance with eight assists, four boards, and one steal in 29 minutes.

Averaging just 5.3 points, five assists, and 2.7 boards in his first three games, Tenorio has increased his norms to 12.8 points, 4.8 assists, and four rebounds in his last four outings.

“Nag-struggle ako nung una kasi lahat kami nag-aaral ng triangle, but ngayon, medyo nakukuha na ng team 'yung triangle, yung different options, at nai-instill na sa team yung philosophy na tinatakbo ng team namin,” Tenorio said. “Mas nakakapag-concentrate kami sa individual offense namin.”
