LA Tenorio on Romeo: 'Pag nasimulan na ni Terrence na ganun, mahirap na stop-in'

LA Tenorio admitted there was little that could limit Terrence Romeo’s offensive explosion the way he started for GlobalPort in its 91-84 win over Ginebra in the PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday night.

While he did most of his damage in the fourth quarter, Romeo also went to work early by scoring 14 points in the first half where the Batang Pier enjoyed a sizeable double-digit advantage, enough to cushion a late rally by the Gin Kings.

“It’s hard to stop a scorer na may rhythm na eh,” Tenorio said, citing not just Romeo but the rest of the GlobalPort scorers for heating up early. “Start pa lang ng game, may rhythm na sila lahat eh.”

“It’s hard to stop players like Terrence na ganun,” he added. “Pag nasimulan na ni Terrence na ganun, mahirap na stop-in talaga eh."

Romeo scored 10 of his season-high 35 points in the second quarter where the Batang Pier built their biggest lead at 18.

“Hindi naman kami na-surprise (na matambakan kami ng ganun). We expected that actually,” Tenorio admitted. “Medyo we’re not that focused coming into this game. Alam namin na anytime, they can come out like that, especially the guards.”

Tenorio, though, sparked the Ginebra comeback, firing 10 of his team-high-tying 23 points in the third as they trimmed the gap to just three points heading into the final frame, only to fall short.

“We just have to learn from this game again,” Tenorio, who occasionally shadowed Romeo, continued. “Hopefully, yun mga ganitong klaseng game, mas marami pa kaming makikita, ganyang scorer like Terrence.”
