Koy Banal left perplexed by Barako tailspin: 'Wala akong kontrol dun sa kanila (players)'

COACH Koy Banal admitted he can only do so much after seeing Barako end its PBA Governors Cup elimination round campaign with a lopsided 117-89 loss to defending champion Star on Sunday.

As puzzled as everyone else with the sudden fate that befell the Energy, Banal was at a loss for words when asked about the fourth straight setback suffered by the team after a 6-1 (win-loss) start to the conference.

The soft-spoken mentor later hinted the Energy appeared to lose focus heading to the latter part of the eliminations.

“I really don’t know. Wala akong control dun sa kanila (players). They’re the ones who are in control especially during the game,” said Banal, who was in a hurry to leave the Smart Araneta Coliseum after the team’s 28-point loss to the Hotshots.

Prior to the game against the Star, Barako Bull also suffered a 120-98 whipping at the hands of Barangay Ginebra.

In all, the Energy fell to a 6-5 record and are actually in danger of missing out on a Top Four spot in the playoffs and the twice-to-beat advantage that goes with it.

Still, Banal said he doesn't want to blame anybody.

“Coaches will try their best to prepare them (players) for the game. But it’s up to them. We don’t want to point fingers to anybody,” he stressed.

“ We will win and lose as a team.”
