Kobe Caluya writes to say thank you to PBA, fans for chance to chase his dream
We have yet to get a letter from the Kobe Bryant, but a thank you note from Kobe Charley Caluya made our Halloween. Jerome Ascano

THIS is not a Halloween type of surprise, but a pleasant one nonetheless.

Guess who dropped us a thank-you note? It's Kobe Charley Caluya, the intrepid baller from Paranaque City who braved the great odds to try his luck in the last PBA Rookie Draft.

At 43 and 5-foot-7, Caluya was a longshot from the start and eventually failed to make the grade after coming up short in the fitness and skills test on Day One of the Draft Combine.

But there was no regrets from Caluya, who wrote to say thanks to the PBA for the opportunity - and to fans whose messages of support encouraged him to pursue his dream.

"Dahil po sa inyo mas tumaas ang morale ko at may nga nagsabi din po sa mga comments na naging inspirasyon din daw ako sa kanila," said the Paranaque City baller in a message to SPIN.ph

"To our good commissioner Chito Narvasa and to all the PBA Staff, Super Thank You po sa opportunity na ibinigay niyo po sa isang 43-Year Old Rookie Aspirant."

Even as the PBA lost a potential draftee, it gained a more loyal follower.

"Dahil dito po mas napamahal ang PBA sa akin. Maraming, maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat."
