'Liga ng Bayan' preseason games to give fans first glimpse of PBA newcomers Kia, Blackwater
Blackwater Sports, owned by Dioceldo Sy, and the Manny Pacquiao-led Kia Motors will play their first official PBA games in the 'Liga ng Bayan' preseason matches.

BASKETBALL fans get their first glimpse of expansion teams Kia Motors behind player-coach Manny Pacquiao and Blackwater Sports when the PBA kicks off its preseason with a series of exhibition matches dubbed 'Liga ng Bayan' beginning September 12.

Seven key cities - Quezon City, Binan, Laguna, Angeles, Legazpi, Davao, Palawan, and Cagayan de Oro - will host the preseason games in a month-long affair aimed at bringing the pro league’s teams closer to the fans.

“Maglalaro ang lahat ng 12 teams ng PBA sa mga probinsya na 'yun para makita nila `yung mga teams. Lalo na ngayon at nag-iba na ang lineups ng ibang teams sa offseason,” said league media bureau chief Willie Marcial on Wednesday.

Marcial, who also serves as special assistant to commissioner Chito Salud, explained that games in these key cities will be played during the weekend.

Aside from Kia and Blackwater, whose respective cores were built around players selected from the dispersal draft, fans will also have a chance to see NLEX for the first time in the preseason.

NLEX became the third new team in the pro league after purchasing the Air21 franchise last June.

The Road Warriors, six-time champions in the PBA D-League, hope to continue their winning tradition in Asia’s first ever play-for-pay league.
