DON'T look now, but KG Canaleta is in line for a return to Barangay Ginebra.

Sources told SPIN.ph the versatile veteran is being eyed by a Ginebra side which, although blessed with a strong lineup laden with talent in all positions, still has a place for a player like Canaleta who is as comfortable hitting the three-pointer as he is slashing to the basket.

For so long coveted by Tim Cone, Canaleta, who played two seasons with the Gin Kings from 2011, could rejoin Ginebra in a trade, possibly for rarely used forward Nico Salva and a future draft pick, the source added.

The question now is if Mahindra is ready to let go of Canaleta or willing to risk ruining chemistry at a time when the long-maligned team is off to the best start in franchise history in the PBA Governors Cup with victories in its first three games.

According to another source, GlobalPort attempted to acquire Canaleta last week, but the offer was denied outright by Mahindra big boss Bobby Rosales.

“Definitely, malaking bagay sa rotation ng Mahindra si KG,” said the insider. “Malalaman natin within the week 'yan. Sa ngayon kasi ayaw pa ni Bobby Rosales na galawin ang team kasi nagpapanalo sila."

While he remains a vital veteran presence to a young Mahindra team, Canaleta, 34, is set to become a restricted free agent with his maximum deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Sources bared Canaleta currently receives a salary of P420,000 a month, half of which was already paid by NLEX after he was traded by the Road Warriors to Mahindra last August.
