KEVIN Ferrer is now officially a kabarangay.

The long-armed, athletic forward from University of Santo Tomas formalized his ties with Barangay Ginebra after signing a three-year maximum contract with the PBA's most popular ballclub.

The deal is worth P8.5 million, making Ferrer the third Gilas cadet drafted to command the same package over the same length of the contract after Mac Belo of Blackwater and Matthew Wright of Phoenix.

The signing was done at the SMC head office in Mandaluyong on Monday in the presence of team officials led by SMC sports director Alfrancis Chua and Ferrer's representative Marvin Espiritu.

Chua later said the Kings are also planning to sign another rookie in Jamir Jamito, but kept mum about a possible spot for fellow freshman Jericho de Guzman.

Likewise set for signing this week are other Gilas cadet draftees such as Ed Daquioag (Meralco) and Von Pessumal (Globalport).
