KEVIN Ferrer admitted it will take a lot to gain the trust of coach Tim Cone after struggling to make his presence felt for Barangay Ginebra in his PBA debut on Sunday.

The highly touted rookie played just 11 minutes and was held to just three points on 1-of-3 shooting, along with three rebounds against one turnover in the 108-103 loss to TNT KaTropa in the PBA Philippine Cup.

“Syempre as a rookie naman, ‘di naman madaling makuha yung loob ni Coach Tim, so kailangan ko pang pagtrabahuhan yung playing time ko at yung trust ni Coach Tim sa akin,” Ferrer said. “Kailangan ko mag-extra work sa training.”

While acknowledging that his offense left much to be desired, the University of Santo Tomas product feels it’s his performance on the other end of the floor that he needs to work on to gain the faith of the league’s most successful coach.

“Challenge din sa akin paano bumawi rin (sa offense), (pero) ‘di ko muna tinitingnan yung points,” Ferrer said. “Kailangan ko dumepensa muna kasi marami nang scorer sa amin. Opportunity na lang yung pag-score ko.”

LA Tenorio, who shouldered most of the scoring load with a game-high 27 points, believes Ferrer and the rest of their new additions will eventually make significant contributions in the future.

Trade acquisition Paolo Taha played only two minutes, while regular draft picks Jammer Jamito and Jericho de Guzman didn't see action.

“Makakatulong talaga sa amin, especially sa rotation,” Tenorio said. “Hopefully in the long run, magkaroon sila ng confidence para makatulong pa sila going to the playoffs and the big games kasi importante yung malalim yung bench lalo na sa all-Filipino so hopefully ma-gain nila agad dito sa conference.”
