Kevin Alas takes load off under-fire teammate Lanete, insists he issued a 'bad pass'

KEVIN Alas eased some of the burden from Garvo Lanete as he took the blame for making what he felt was a bad pass to his teammate in a potential game-winning play in regulation in the team's 126-121 overtime loss to TNT on Friday.

While coach Yeng Guiao rued Lanete for fumbling a pass from Alas in a positon where he was open for a game-winning triple, Alas feels he made it tough for Lanete to catch the leather.

“Bad pass siguro," Alas said.

Depstite leading all NLEX locals in scoring with 19 points, Alas was hardly satisfied of his showing especially in the extra session.

"Sabi ni coach Yeng nawala yung ball movement, then nung sa overtime, yung responsibility nasa akin kasi ako yung point guard sa loob," the former Letran star said. "Feeling ko I forced three shots in overtime, so I think yung responsibility nung overtime nasa akin."

Alas, though, noted they found it hard when the Texters changed up their defensive shchemes after falling into a 29-point hole.

"May adjustment sila," Alas said. "Nagsi-switch na sila sa ball-screen. Kami naman, as players, we have to be ready dun sa mga adjustments na ginagawa ng kabilang team eh. So yun nga, nasa point guard yun eh at ako yung nasa loob nun."

"We just have to move, siguro practice harder, and keep on improving para next game, we won’t make the same mistakes," he added. "We have to be mature kasi we can’t close out games eh."
