KERBY Raymundo made a rare appearance at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday to support his former team Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Governors Cup finals opener against the Meralco Bolts.

Raymundo, who spent a couple of seasons with Ginebra in a long career, bared he has not kept tab on the events in the league but was happy nonetheless to see the Gin Kings reach the finals for the first time after a three-year wait.

"I'm very happy especially for Mark (Caguioa) and Jayjay (Helterbrand). Masaya ako na nasa finals sila," said Raymundo, who was part of the Ginebra team that lost to Calvin Abueva and Alaska in the 2013 Commissioner's Cup finals.

"Sobrang happy ako para sa kanila. Last game ko yung championship namin but we fell short."

Incidentally, Raymundo also played for the Bolts in a career studded with a Mythical First Team selection and a number of All-Star appearances. But he could hardly tell which team will come out on top in the best-of-seve series.

"Di ako nanonood, ngayon lang kasi yung anak ko, gustong manood ng championship. Di ko nasusubaybayan masyado ang PBA. Siguro kung sino yung mas makakalaro ng maganda," said the former B-Meg star.

Raymundo, though, will be happy to see Helterbrand and Caguioa end their decorated careers with another championship under their belt.

"I wish them the best in their careers, especially Jayjay. Nafi-feel ko si Jayjay may hinihintay na lang na championship (before retiring)," he said.
