THE student is poised to literally get one over the mentor.

June Mar Fajardo has the inside track on winning his sixth Best Player of the Conference award in the PBA Philippine Cup that would break Danny Ildefonso’s record.

The reigning four-time MVP, tied with Danny I for the most BPC awards with five, is the runaway leader in the statistical points race with 44.1 average SPs after the eliminations.

Fajardo, who is averaging a tournament-leading 22.8 points, 13.2 boards, and 2.1 blocks, is ahead of San Miguel Beer teammate Arwind Santos, who gathered 37.6 SPs.

Stanley Pringle of GlobalPort is in third spot with 35.6 SPs, while Blackwater’s Poy Erram (35.3), and Ginebra beanpole Japeth Aguilar (34.2) round out the Top Five.

Kiefer Ravena, to no one’s surprise, is the Rookie of the Year award frontrunner with 27 average SPs entering the quarterfinals, while Jeron Teng of Alaska is at second with 25.2 SPs.
