JUNE Mar Fajardo moved closer to adding another silverware to his trophy case as he emerged as the Best Player of the Conference race frontrunner after the PBA Philippine Cup elimination round.

The three-time reigning MVP averaged 19.9 points, a tournament-leading 16 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and 1.7 assists in 11 games in anchoring San Miguel Beer to the top of the standings as he amassed 45 average statistical points (SPs).

Terrence Romeo, though, is not far behind as the GlobalPort star and Fajardo are just separated by 3.5 points - the gap created by the bonuses for won games given to the Beermen's star slotman.

Fajardo already has four BPC awards, including three in the last three editions of the all-Filipino conference.

Two other SMB standouts follow suit as Arwind Santos (34.2) and Alex Cabagnot (33.4) are running third and fourth, while Ginebra slotman Japeth Aguilar rounded out the Top Five with 32 points.

Phoenix wingman Matthew Wright, running sixth in the overall statistical points standings, is now on top of the Rookie the Year race with 31.7 average SPs, overtaking early leader Mac Belo, who has tallied 27.7 points after leading Blackwater’s rise to relevance.

Jio Jalalon of Star completed the Top Three with 23.2 points.
