Uichico can't emphasize his point enough to Texters: 'Play defense, play defense'

BIÑAN, Laguna — Despite the lopsided victory over Barako Bull on Sunday, Talk ‘N Text coach Jong Uichico rued the team’s lack of effort on defense.

The Tropang Texters shot 51 percent (43-of-84) including a hot 60 percent in the first half in their 122-106 win over the Energy. They also made 10 of their 19 three-point shots against one of the league's lowly teams.

But Barako Bull actually shot very well with a 48 percent clip (40-of-83) despite trailing by as many as 31 points.

It was a big reason why Uichico was not satisfied with the victory.

“We had a good offensive game but we didn’t have a good defensive game,” said Uichico.”I have to ask for more from them on defense.”

With the victory, Talk ‘N Text climbed to fourth to share the spot with Barangay Ginebra with a 5-3 win-loss card.

But Uichico said they only need one thing to play more consistently and move up with the elimination round nearing its conclusion.

“Play defense. Play defense. Play defense,” said Uichico.
