THEY have only been teammates for less than two seasons, but that is enough for Jimmy Alapag to be convinced that Danny Seigle would make a good PBA commissioner.

Alapag, who teamed up with Seigle the last two years before becoming the new Talk ‘N Text manager, believes the veteran Tropang Texters forward has what it takes to run the pro league.

“I played with and, for a lot of years, against Danny. I don’t know how the whole (selection) process will be, but he’s a great candidate,” Alapag said on Thursday night after the Texters’ 111-107 win against Purefoods in Game Three of their Commissioner’s Cup semifinal series.

"I think Danny Seigle, the person, you won’t find a better person or a guy with high character and the utmost class,” he added. “I think he’s shown that his entire career.”

Seigle, the youngest and the only active player among the six remaining candidates from an initial list of 18, has played for three teams in his 16-year career that’s embellished with seven championships, two Best Player of the Conference awards, and four Finals MVPs.

Seigle, who was headhunted for the position, initially made comment about his candidacy only to recant later after being briefed by the league that the candidates are prohibited to speak on the matter while the selection process is ongoing.

Leave it to Alapag to provide the endorsement.

“I think he’s still connected to the game,” Alapag continued. “I don’t know what the league is looking for, but his connection to the league and his relationship with the coaches, managers, and the players could only benefit him.

“His resume speaks for itself."
