JEFF Viernes has gained a new lease on his life in the PBA after securing the last spot in the Globalport roster for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

After a short-lived PBA debut with Phoenix last season when he was caught playing in an outside league, the journeyman plamaker is back on the big stage, this time with the Batang Pier.

Team manager Bonnie Tan confirmed the development in a text message on Friday, meaning the Batang Pier’s lineup is set after Viernes edged out Jong Baloria for the last spot.

Viernes has the entire midseason tournament to prove his worth after signing a one-conference deal, according to agent Danny Espiritu.

Viernes has been tearing it up in the Thai league and PBA D-League, leading the charge of Che’lu-San Sebastian in their unlikely run to the finals against Zarks Burger, prompting the Batang Pier to take a look.
