SINCE being replaced by Ato Agustin as Barangay Ginebra coach, there has been no word on where former PBA star guard Jeffrey Cariaso is headed.

A possible return to his old role as an assistant to Tim Cone at Purefoods remains in question since the team filled up Cariaso's spot with Jason Webb when he left for Ginebra late last season.

On the other hand, Cariaso's former assistant Olsen Racela was retained by Ginebra to join Freddie Abuda, Jorge Gallent and the incoming Frankie Lim as assistants of Agustin.

So where will Cariaso go?

A source told that Cariaso might be on his way to GlobalPort, which is still without a head coach after elevating Pido Jarencio to a consultant role at the end of the Philippine Cup eliminations.

Eric Gonzales is calling the shots for the Batang Pier on an interim basis and his status is unchanged, even if the team has already said he will be in charge in the midseason Commissioner's Cup.

Cariaso took over the Ginebra job in the Governors Cup last season and his stint proved shortlived after the popular team failed to go deep in the playoffs in two conferences with his tringle offense.

This early, there are questions on whether the triangle offense will be a good fit for GlobalPort, which does not have enough pieces to thrive in a system that revolves around big men.

Also, GlobalPort under Gonzales whipped Cariaso and Ginebra in their first meeting in the Philippine Cup, before the Kings got their revenge in the quarterfinals.

Before Cariaso's name was floated as a possible GlobalPort coach, former Air21 Express mentor Franz Pumaren wasa signature away from getting the head coaching job, sources said.

However, sources said the plan was aborted by top management at the last minute.
